Contains real Ringo juice (but not 100%)

The first "permanent" band debut for Shiina Ringo, Tokyo Incidents is a well balanced part of your complete Ringo meal. Although not as "full flavoured" as her solo acts, Tokyo Incidents is definitely a superb blend of talents that lets Ringo "blend in" as a charismatic lead singer/song writer. The title track, "Gunjyo Biyori" (What a Fine Blue Day), is the only fast rock on this maxi-single. It lacks full Ringo-ness, so some might be left with an appetite for more, but those people will have to wait for the next release. Overall, it is a speedy punchy rolling song that will leave you humming the chorus part for the rest of the day (No surprise that it was used for an AU commercial in Japan). The jazz rock cover of "The Lady Is A Tramp" (Kono Onnna Fushidarani Tsuki) is not the best "cover", but still it sounds like the members of Tokyo Incidents are having fun. Finally, "Faces" is a begs to be cryptic, but understandably straight forward. Masquerading as a love song, it lacks sarcasm and noir that listeners have become accustomed to. Although Shiina Ringo herself admits in interviews that she doesn't have to be "risque" anymore, I think a lot of us will miss the old her. |
