Return to work with Yoko Kanno

After some bumpy roads, I was anticipating Maaya's return to Yoko Kanno's magical composition with GREAT INTENT! HOWEVER! What we were given, isn't all that fantastic. Musically, it sounds like something that could have easily come off of DIVE. It's corny, very anime centered in both melody and arrangement. Maaya's voice sounds a little off too. It's a wee bit too childish, and almost nasal. She's certainly lost some of her vocal purity and charm, and apparently some of her range as well. The b-side is pleasant, if a little bit boring. A fairly weak return after so much anticipation, but really, not all that bad. And it comes with a pink plastic traingle! |
